Extreme Loading for Structures or ELS from Applied Science International or ASI is a software for analyzing and predicting the behavior of structures against extreme loads. With the help of this program, structural engineers can check the state of collapse and the level of resistance of different parts of the structure against the imposed pressures. The program shows the changes that have occurred and how the different parts collapse in three-dimensional and graphical form. In this program, it is possible to test and evaluate various types of static or gradual dynamic loads on different areas of the structure.For example, it is possible to introduce instantaneous and discrete loads such as explosions, earthquakes, building settlements, winds and storms, etc., and check the structure’s behavior against these irregularities.
Unlike many structural analysis software that work based on the finite element method, this program uses a non-linear and more accurate solution called AEM or Applied Element Method. This method allows the software to automatically evaluate the behavior of the structure against elastic and inelastic stresses. In this case, it is possible to check the amount of vibration of reinforcements, the amount of buckling of columns, shear walls, the state of the structure after buckling, the method and direction of crack propagation and the effects of pi-delta, etc.
The pi-delta effects usually exert extra force on other floors due to the eccentricity of the gravity loads of the upper floors. You can not only see these effects in this program graphically and with relatively accurate numbers, but it is also possible to track the amount of changes in this factor. Observing the changes that have taken place and also the way of separating the components of the structure can have valuable results. Based on this information, we can identify the weak points of the structure and increase its final strength.
